Fat Reduction vs. Weight Loss | CoolSculpting®

What's the Difference Between Getting Rid of Fat and Losing Weight?

Many Sona MedSpa clients interested in the CoolSculpting fat reduction treatment have the very common misconception that weight loss and fat reduction are the same thing. They are not. While as we all know maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of physical health, it does not always equate to the look you want. That means you could spend months dieting, working out, and staying fit, and still not get rid of those love handles or problem areas around your stomach that you just can't stand. CoolSculpting is designed specifically to help you target stubborn fat in those areas.

When we lose weight, our fat cells become smaller, but the number of fat cells remains the same. When we gain weight, those fat cells become larger again.

The CoolSculpting procedure actually reduces the number of fat cells in the treated areas. Obviously, fat cells that are no longer there can't get bigger. And unlike weight loss surgery or other non-surgical weight loss procedures, results from the CoolSculpting procedure are lasting because once the fat cells are eliminated, they're gone for good.

After the CoolSculpting procedure, the treated areas actually have fewer fat cells. And unlike what happens when you lose weight, there's no change in fat cell distribution in untreated areas.

Ask An Expert at Sona: Get Rid of Unwanted Hair with Laser Hair Removal

Posted by Jessie Bumgarner on Oct 22, 2015 8:52:49 AM

Have you ever received Laser Hair Removal? If so, how do you like your results?

Yes and I've had excellent results! I love not having to shave everyday!

Who is a good candidate for Laser Hair Removal?

The best candidate for laser hair removal are those who have dark hair and skin types I-V on the Fitzpatrick scale.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?

At Sona MedSpa we use the Sporano XL Diode Laser - the gold standard for hair removal technology. The light of the laser beam is transformed into heat when it comes in contact with the hair. Then the laser seeks out the melanin found in the fair follicle. This heat works from the inside out, damaging the follicle and surrounding cells and inhibiting further growth.

When should you begin to see results?

After each treatment you will begin seeing your hair grow back lighter and finer. You will see a signifcant improvement in the reduction of your hair growth usually after your third treatment through the completion of your treatment package.

Why would you recommend Laser Hair Removal?

I recommend Laser Hair Removal because it is convenient and your skin will look and feel smoother. It saves both time and money from having to shave daily and purchasing expensive razors. Laser hair removal also helps with ingrown hairs and razor burn. It gives you more confidence in yourself when you don’t have to worry about unsightly hairs.

What was one of the most rewarding client transformations you’ve seen?

I had a female client that had an abundance of facial and chest hair. She was teased by her family that she was more like a man. When she completed her package, she was happy with her results and her family could not believe her transformation.

What is your favorite part of your job?

I love working at Sona MedSpa becasue I get to see on a daily basis the transformations our services provide. At the end of the day, our clients feel good about themselves and I love forming lasting relationships with each and every one of them.

CoolSculpting vs. Liposuction

Posted by Jessie Bumgarner on Oct 15, 2015 1:59:00 PM

CoolSculpting vs Liposuction

CoolSculpting and Liposuction are both proven treatments to But which treatment is right for you?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical, fat-freezing procedure that provides a more comfortable, non-invasive alternative to contouring the body. Liposuction (also known as Lipoplasty) is the surgical removal of excess fat. During a CoolSculpting procedure, a device is positioned on the area being treated and controlled cooling is applied. The treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), then die. Over time, the body naturally processes the fat and eliminates the dead fat cells. Liposuction requires a patient to be under anesthesia and a thin, straw-like instrument called a cannula is inserted through incisions to loosen excess fat. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe.

Depending on the area being treated, a CoolSculpting procedure takes about 45 - 90 minutes to complete. During this time you can read, work on your laptop or tablet, talk on the phone, or even take a nap. You can take advantage of a CoolScuplting procedure by having "you time." Most would agree that Liposuction is not as relaxing. With Liposuction (like most surgical procedures) anesthesia is used and after your 45 - 90 minute liposuction procedure, at least an additional 30 minutes is required of post-anesthesia observation. This means unlike a CoolSculpting procedure that can have you in and out in about an hour, Liposuction requires at least 2 hours at the medical facility.

After a CoolScuplting procedure, you may experience a little numbness in the treated area, but there is no downtime. This procedure allows you to return to your normal activities right after the procedure and can resume workouts in a day or two. Due to Liposuction being a surgical procedure, downtime is required and normal activities can be resumed within a few weeks after the procedure. Depending on the area being treated, pain will occur 2-4 days after surgery and a compression garment must be worn for a few weeks after Liposuction to allow the skin to tighten as the treated area heals.

In the weeks and months following a CoolSculpting procedure, the body naturally processes the treated fat, gradually tightens the skin, and eliminates the dead cells. Once the treated fat cells are gone, they are gone for good and more noticeable results of fat reduction can be seen around 2-4 months after the procedure, depending on the area treated. Unlike CoolSculpting, Liposuction is a procedure that removes excess fat immediately leaving the skin loose, which does not allow the body to naturally tighten like CoolSculpting. Even though CoolSculpting and Liposuction both result in eliminating fat and contouring the body to a more attractive state, both results must be maintained. As long as a healthy lifestyle is maintained, the results will stay.

As the leader in the aesthetics industry, Sona MedSpa is committed to ensuring our clients the best possible results. We want our clients to feel confident that they will see results, which is why we offer the Sona CoolSculpting Promise.  To find out more about our CoolSculpting Promise, contact a Sona expert today to schedule a free consultation.

Both CoolSculpting and Liposuction are not "one size fits all" treatments.  This means treatment plans are truly unique to the individual and their goals. Because everyone does not have the same body type or the same goals, pricing can and will vary from client to client and an in-person consultation is required. The CoolSculpting procedure is very affordable compared to more invasive procedures like liposuction. At Sona MedSpa, we offer a number of financing options that provide low monthly payment plans to fit your budget.
