WATCH: Skin Tightening and Cellulite Reduction with Venus Legacy

Posted by Jessie Bumgarner on Sep 22, 2016 10:22:10 AM

Both cellulite and loose or sagging skin are common complaints for many Sona clients. Over time, the skin naturally becomes less elastic, which can lead to drooping and sagging. Cellulite can occur at any age and on any body type, and is caused by underlying fat deposits that give the skin a dimpled or lumpy appearance. Cellulite is notoriously difficult to treat, despite the influx of creams, at-home treatments, and special exercises.

Technology comes to the rescue with Venus Legacy™ at Sona. Venus Legacy™ is a non-invasive, pain-free treatment that gets proven results for cellulite reduction & skin tightening.

Check out why clients are choosing Venus Legacy at Sona MedSpa and how this revolutionary procedure can benefit you!

Your Skin & Menopause

Posted by Jessie Bumgarner on Aug 30, 2016 11:18:16 AM

Your Skin and Menopause.jpg

How Your Skin Changes During Menopause

For all women, menopause is an incredibly complicated process. When your hormones change, your body starts changing: hot flashes, night sweats, dryness, mood swings, hair growth, hair loss, acne, insomnia, and more.  But did you know that menopause significantly effects your skin?

The reason that menopause effects the skin is because women need estrogen to stimulate skin-smoothing collagen and oils. When menopause approaches, estrogen levels decrease, resulting in dryness and sagging of the skin, acne, and fine lines and wrinkles. Plus, with testosterone no longer masked in the women's body, some women may develop unwanted hair growth, particularly facial hair.

Tips for Better Skin During and After Menopause:

  • Hydrate & Protect - Make applying moisturizer and SPF 30+ sunscreen your daily routine
  • Eat your Antioxidants - Eating foods with antioxidants can make the collagen in your skin stronger
  • Stock up on Soy - Soy is rich in isoflavones, plant-based compounds that act like estrogen in your body, This can help with hot flashes and night sweats
  • Laser Skin Rejuvenation - You are now more prone to sun damage. If you are noticing sun spots or age spots, a solution at Sona MedSpa is the non-invasive skin treatment AFT which can provide a clearer and more youthful complexion with no downtime
  • Laser Hair Removal - Whether it's unwanted hair on you chin, upper lip, legs, or where ever, Laser Hair Removal at Sona MedSpa can relieve the embarrassment and build back your confidence with smooth, silky skin.
  • Botox & Dermal Fillers - If you are noticing more fine lines and wrinkles, Botox and Dermal Fillers are temporary solutions that can restore and correct facial aging. Read more about How to Address the Signs of Aging
  • Maintain Your Youthful Glow - SkinMedica products like TNS Essential Serum, Chemical Peels, and Microdermabrasions are great solutions to keeping your skin looking and feeling its best. Read more about The Benefits of Chemicals Peels

Don't let Menopause control you. Stay in control of your body and be proactive.

What is a MedSpa?

Posted by Brett Lutz on Aug 18, 2016 2:51:46 PM

Are you looking to schedule a pedicure, massage, or facial? Many spas offer those services, but a medical spa offers a different sort of pampering. Med spas like Sona, also called medi-spas or medical spas, are hybrids between the traditional day spa and an aesthetic medical center. At Sona MedSpa, we blend the best of those two worlds - a relaxing spa-like experience with the non-surgical procedures and expertise previously only found at a doctor’s office.

How does a medical spa differ from a traditional day spa?

The biggest difference between a traditional day spa and a medical spa like Sona is that results-oriented medical aesthetic treatments are offered at a med spa. Unlike day spas, med spas are under the general supervision of a licensed physician and treatments are performed by trained, experienced and qualified providers.

sona-medspa-0172.jpgWhat types of treatments are done at a medical spa?

Treatment types/services can vary but Sona specializes in:

As with all med spas, Sona's treatments are non-invasive, non-surgical, and require little to no downtime.  Most clients resume normal activities immediately following treatment.

sona-medspa-0185_2.jpgWho will perform my treatment, a doctor or an aesthetician?

Who performs your treatment can depend on the treatment and which company you choose. Medical regulations also differ from state-to-state.

Sona’s medically trained staff and personnel have performed more than two million treatments since we first opened our doors in 1997. In addition to hiring only certified and seasoned medically licensed providers, we send our Aestheticians, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and Physicians Assistants through the intensive training program known as Sona University.

The level of care at Sona far exceeds that of the average med spa. In addition to the oversight of our Medical Advisory Board, each facility is overseen locally by a physician licensed in that state, as well as a Physicians Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, to focus on the safety and efficacy of every procedure.

Reasons to Consider Spider Vein Removal

Posted by Jessie Bumgarner on Aug 11, 2016 1:31:33 PM

Do you avoid wearing shorts or swimming apparel because you don't want others to see your spider veins? Even minor skin imperfections can make a big impact. Little things that others may not notice, like spider veins, can stand out bigger than life. Technology comes to the rescue with the Sona solution for removing spider veins.

What are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are dilated or stretched blood vessels that have a branching pattern and are commonly found on the thigh, lower leg and occasionally on the face. On the face they are often referred to as broken capillaries. They can be easily confused with varicose veins, but are not the same.

  • Spider Veins are smaller, flat, red, purple, and blue vessels
  • Varicose Veins are large, raised, swollen blood vessels

Spider veins are progressive in nature and usually increase in number and visibility with age. They are caused by increased pressure in the veins. The question of why people get them, and some don't is unclear, but doctors say the tendency of those who get them is hereditary. Other factors that can cause spider veins: occupations (standing for long periods of time), obesity, and hormonal influences.

When to Consider Spider Vein Treatment

  • If you have visible veins on your legs or thighs that have a branching or web-like pattern
  • If you have a pattern of branching veins on your face that you try to conceal
  • If you feel that your spider veins are a sign of aging that you would like to eliminate

How to Treat Spider Veins

There are many different ways to treat spider veins. At Sona MedSpa we use lasers that are typically used to treat small to medium-sized blood vessels that usually occur in the face. During treatment, a hand piece is passed over the skin and the laser light is absorbed by the blood, causing the vessels to coagulate and be absorbed by the body. Plus, there is little downtime!

The Benefits of Chemical Peels

Posted by Jessie Bumgarner on Aug 1, 2016 4:05:16 PM

iStock_000011860992_Double.jpgAs we age naturally, our skin cells do not replace themselves as rapidly, This can result in a dry and dull appearanceAt Sona MedSpa, we exclusively offer SkinMedica professional level chemical peels which exfoliate dead skin cells and help reveal fresh, new skin.

By eliminating this dead skin cell build-up with a consistent routine of professional peels, your skin will have a younger, healthier, well-hydrated and more radiant appearance. Safe for all skin types, you will notice improved appearance in days and continual improvement for weeks to come. Not only are SkinMedica Chemical Peels a great solution to restore your skin, but we highly recommend using chemical peels to maintain your results from other services at Sona MedSpa like Pixel and AFT. But why Chemical Peels?

Benefits of Chemical Peels :
  • Improves the tone of your skin
  • Reduces the signs of aging
  • Clears acne and acne scarring
  • Stimulates the production of collagen

Professional peel treatments contain anti-bacterial and immune stimulating ingredients which makes it an excellent treatment option for skin prone to acne. Peels help break the oily skin cycle, unclogging pores and preventing future outbreaks. Professional peels also are recommended for improving irregular discoloration, smoothing rough texture, and reducing mild scarring.  Our Sona Skin Consultants will customize a solution depending on your skin type and condition.

If I'm Using Chemical Peels to Improve My Skin Tone, How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of treatments recommended will vary depending on the skin condition that is being addressed. A more aggressive approach would be as frequent as every two weeks. Once desired results are achieved, peels can be repeated as part of an ongoing maintenance program.

Do Chemical Peels Require Any Downtime?

Post treatment, your skin may be pink or slightly red which will subside within a few hours. Over the next several days your skin may feel tight and dry. You may notice some peeling or flaking of the skin, Make-up can be worn, however a mineral based make-up is recommended. Sun exposure should be limited immediately following treatment.

Tools of the Trade: How Sona Customizes Your CoolSculpting® Transformation

Posted by Jessie Bumgarner on Jul 13, 2016 3:19:36 PM

CoolSculpting is the revolutionary technology in aesthetic fat reduction that everyone is talking about. Whether your have stubborn fat around your stomach, thighs, or even under your chin - CoolSculpting could be the perfect solution. But what can you expect from your CoolSculpting transformation at Sona MedSpa?

When you schedule your Free Consultation at Sona MedSpa, a CoolSculpting-certified treatment provider will customize your CoolSculpting treatment plan with a wide range of CoolSculpting applicators that are specifically designed to eliminate stubborn fat for good. The applicators you will hear your Sona Skin Consultant describe are: CoolMax (Large Volume Reduction), CoolCore (Abdomen), CoolFit (Inner Thighs), CoolSmooth Pro (Outer Thighs), CoolCurve+ (Flanks/Love Handles), and the NEW CoolMini (Double Chin). Having a variety of applicators allows this FDA-cleared technology to be optimized to fit different body shapes and sizes to produce the best results.

Most of the CoolSculpting applicators use vacuum pressure to draw the tissue between the cooling panels. During the treatment, the applicator delivers precisely controlled cooling conditions that have been proven to target and eliminate fat cells in specific areas of the body. When the fat cells are exposed to this cooling, they trigger a process of natural removal that gradually reduces the thickness of the fat layer. Address the Signs of Aging with Sona

Posted by Jessie Bumgarner on Jul 11, 2016 8:37:00 AM

As we age and lose facial volume, the contour of the face changes, causing shadow patterns to develop, while youthful highlights fade. Gaining a better understanding of how your face changes over time may help you to discover the best treatment options to address your individual concerns.

The aging process has an impact beyond the facial wrinkles and lines that form on the skin's surface. Aging affects multiple layers, including: the bone, muscles, fat-pads, and skin.

What Factors Impact The Way Our Skin Age?

  • Lifestyle choices - sun exposure, smoking, alcohol use, diet, and stress - all of our life choices can cause brown spots, rough skin, and wrinkles, as well as the premature onset and progression of aging,
  • Genetics affect all layers of the skin and contribute to thinning, dryness, and loss of elasticity of the skin during the aging process

How Can I Address Signs Of Aging?

Fillers and Botox can help temporarily restore facial volume and correct age-related shadow patterns inherent to the aging face. When talking to our Sona Skin Consultants, they will assess your facial structure and genetics, and discuss with you a customized treatment plan that meets your wants and needs.

  • Botox Cosmetic - For those in their 20's and 30's, Botox helps to prevent wrinkles and enhance complexion. For those in their 40's or older may opt for Botox to soften existing lines and prevent new ones from forming.
  • Dermal Fillers - Fillers work to fill "creases" and "plump" the skin. This allows a more youthful looking appearance by replacing lost tissue volume with filler in addition to filling folds and wrinkles.

Talk to a Sona Skin Consultant today about facial aging and the treatment options that can help you achieve your desired youthful appearance.

How to Get Started with Botox

Posted by Jessie Bumgarner on Jun 30, 2016 12:58:46 PM

Have you been thinking about BOTOX® Cosmetic for treating those frown lines and crow's feet that appear naturally with age?  You're not alone- Botox is a treatment that has been experienced by millions of people.  Approximately 10.9 million vials of Botox Cosmetic have been sold in the United States since 2002, and millions of people have already made Botox Cosmetic a part of what they do for themselves. Today, Botox Cosmetic is the #1 selling product of its kind in the world.

Are you wondering how to get started?  The first step is finding an experienced and reputable provider that you trust. Your cost will not only include the price of the product, but more importantly, the skill and expertise of the specialist or healthcare professional who is administering your treatment.  Botox is a technique-sensitive treatment—look for someone who is licensed and trained and has experience treating patients with Botox Cosmetic.

The Sona Difference

Sona MedSpa has been awarded the prestigious Black Diamond status by Allergan, the exclusive manufacturer of Botox, ranking Sona among the top 1% of providers in the country. In addition, Sona’s professional staff is expertly trained and certified by Allergan. You can feel confident choosing Sona’s experience and our top-notch medical providers.

What About Safety?

Botox Cosmetic is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments and is approved for cosmetic use in 78 countries. Botox has a record of experience that aesthetic specialists like Sona know and trust. And, the safety and efficacy of Botox Cosmetic have been evaluated in both Allergan sponsored clinical trials as well as in 417 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals.

Be wary of discount products or “cheap” Botox—if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Creating a Treatment Plan

At Sona, you'll speak with an experienced treatment provider who will take the time to understand your treatment goals and develop a treatment plan that is right for you.  Your provider will perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas and treatment approach for achieving your goals.

Learn More: Q & A with a Sona Botox Expert

What Should I Expect With Treatment?

  • Before your appointment, our provider will ask you what medications you are currently taking, any medical conditions, if you had surgery on your face or plan to do so, and if you are pregnant or nursing or plan to become pregnant or plan to nurse.
  • During your treatment, some clients report that being injected with Botox® feels like a pinch. Your provider may use ice to numb the treatment area.
  • The actual injection process takes about 10 minutes. Sona providers will discuss your treatment goals and perform a facial analysis to determine the appropriate treatment areas for you.
  • After your treatment, you will see real, noticeable results - You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines, with results lasting up to 3 months.
  • You'll look like yourself - only with less noticeable frown lines and crow's feet. Botox® is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy.
  • You'll return to your daily routine. Treatment requires minimal downtime or recovery; it's often called a lunchtime procedure
